Have you ever heard of Yamato-kotoba?
きっとやまと(大和)は聞いたことがあるかもしれない。
You may have heard of Yamato.
大和とは昔の日本の名称あるいは、近畿地方をヤマト地方といったりした。
Yamato was the old name of Japan, or the Kinki region was called the Yamato region.
その言葉ということで、昔から日本人が使ってきた「にほんご」といえよう。
It can be said that the word is “Nihongo”, which has been used by Japanese people for a long time.
例えば、「しあわせ」という言葉がある。これを日本では漢字で「幸福」とも言い換えられる。
For example, there is the word “happiness”. In Japan, this can also be translated as “happiness” in kanji.
幸福というと、日本で生まれた漢字や言葉というよりは、大陸や半島から伝わった漢字語だ。
kouhuku(Happiness) is not a kanji character or word that originated in Japan, but rather a kanji word that came from the continent or the peninsula.

それに対して「しあわせ」は古来から日本人の知恵を利用して発音してきた「ひびき」をもつ。

日本人はこの「やまとことば」を好む傾向がある。特にビジネスシーンで使われる。

近代の外来語といえば、カタカナで表記されている。例えば「プレゼント」
Modern foreign words are written in katakana. For example, “Present”
「プレゼント」もいいが、「おくりもの」という言葉もある。
“Present” is good, but there is also the word “gift”.
おくりものというと、どこか心がこもっているように聞こえる。
When we say gifts, it sounds like something from the heart.
言葉は形や意味だけで使うことでは、味気ない。心を込めたいときがある。
Using words only for their form and meaning is boring. There are times when we want to put my heart into it.
そんなとき、「大和言葉」は非常に有効だ。
